Utah Company Encourages Employees to Walk "Miles For Meals"
For every mile walked, Food for Health International donates a meal to local food banks.
Orem, UT, October 04, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Employees at Food for Health International, a company specializing in whole food nutrition and emergency preparedness, are walking “Miles for Meals”. For the past three months, they have tracked each mile with each of the 10,000 miles reported converting to a healthy, nutritious meal donated to a local food bank.
“Miles for Meals is mutually beneficial for both our employees and those in need,” said Dave Christensen, executive vice president of operations. “We want our people to live a healthier lifestyle, and this not only encouraged them to be active with their families, but also allowed them to give back to the community.”
Employees and participating family members were challenged to pledge a generous number of miles per week. Wearing pedometers throughout the week, they reported their totals every Monday and a company tally was recorded. The top three performers will act as Food for Health representatives when the meals are donated to the Community Action Service and Food Bank of Provo.
“We are extremely proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish,” Christensen said. “We had 54 employees and family members walking, and to reach a number like 10,000 meals donated is extremely gratifying for everyone.”
“This program will help us tremendously,” said Dave Smith, manager of the Food Bank. “This time of year there is always a great need for generous donations, so we are excited for what Food for Health is doing for us.”
