Pink Ribbon Army Marches Across Facebook

Seattle, WA, October 04, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Half a million fans on Facebook have joined the “Pink Ribbon Army,” a social media application to raise awareness and fight the disease which afflicts millions of women around the world. This month, GreaterGood Network’s The Breast Cancer Site is encouraging even more recruits with a pledge to donate $25,000 to research when the army reaches one million recruits.

Anyone can join the cause for free by visiting Facebook and searching “Pink Ribbon Army.” A link to the new Facebook app will also appear on the TheBreastCancerSite.com.

The video producers of the What You Can web series joined the Pink Ribbon Army and then created two YouTube videos to encourage greater awareness of the fight against breast cancer. “The Pink Ribbon Army” (http://youtu.be/2MVETKuaEL8) challenges its watchers “you and what army?” and then answers “let’s show them.” More than 33,000 people already have viewed this video.

The lighthearted “Rosie the Ribboner” (http://youtu.be/lWfWo3_Fx5A) harkens back to the great slogans of World War II as both men and women wearing pink bandanas jitterbug through New York's parks. More than 17,000 people have shared its winning message so far.

Members of the Pink Ribbon Army can fight breast cancer daily at The Breast Cancer Site (www.TheBreastCancerSite.com by clicking on the site’s pink home page button to fund mammograms in communities across the United States. A portion of all purchases from TheBreastCancerSite.com store also goes to fund mammograms. Since it began in October 2000, this GreaterGood Network website has funded more than 57,070 mammograms.

In 2012, GreaterGood.org, which distributes all grants funded by The Breast Cancer Site and other GreaterGood Network websites, already has contributed $100,000 to Mayo Clinic for breast cancer research as well as providing funding for such programs as Hope For Two, Patients Access Network, Living Beyond Breast Cancer, and Patients Access Network to assist women living with breast cancer.
