Local Culinary Institution’s Students Embark on Culinary Odyssey to Germany and Northeast France
Indianapolis, IN, October 06, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Chef’s Academy (http://www.thechefsacademy.com), the Culinary Division of Harrison College, a 110-year-old, nationally accredited institution that offers 40 degree programs in five schools of study, will send students to observe the 2012 IKA (Internationale Kochkunst Ausstellung) Culinary Olympics at the Messe Erfurt in Erfurt, Germany from Saturday, Oct. 6 through Wednesday, Oct. 10.
The IKA 2012 Culinary Olympics is a prestigious international culinary competition which features both team and individual challenges. The categories of team competitors include junior national culinary, national culinary, pastry, regional culinary, military national culinary and communal catering. Individual competition categories include two culinary arts, pâtisserie, cold food showpiece culinary artistry, showpiece pâtisserie, and fruit and vegetable carving. The competition is judged by 76 professional jurors, who decide who will receive gold, silver, bronze or certificates. Earning a medal from the IKA Culinary Olympics is the highest award for culinary professionals.
The Chef’s Academy students will receive day passes to the competition in addition to VIP tickets to the Restaurant of Nations, where they will enjoy the cuisine of a competing international team. After the competition, they will experience a culinary adventure through Germany and Northeast France, beginning with a night in Heidelberg, Germany, one of the country’s most beautiful cities, where they will dine at Restaurant Zum Roten Ochsen. Students will travel next to Strasbourg, France for a three-night stay that will include visiting a local foie gras producer, wine tastings, and a guided visit of the Old Town. Evenings will include dining at La Cloche a Fromage, L’Ami Fritz and La Maison des Tanneurs. Additionally, participants will follow this stop by traveling to Colmar, France, where they will take part in a grape harvest in the vineyards of Seppi Landmann, as well as a wine tasting and lunch. Other activities will include a guided city visit, a walking tour of “Little Venice,” a Munster cheese tasting at Caves Haxaire, a tasting at the Wolfberger distillery, and a gastronomic dinner at Le RendezVous de Chasse. Students will complete their trip with a one-night stay in Frankfurt, Germany and dinner at Baseler Eck.
