Corporate Relocation Specialists HCR Reduce Carbon Footprint by 12.5%
Basingstoke, United Kingdom, October 05, 2012 --(PR.com)-- After becoming the first Relocation Management Company to become Carbon Neutral, UK-based Employee Relocation Company HCR has successfully cut their total CO2 emissions by 12.5% over the last year.
Green leaders HCR worked with environmental analysts from Carbon Footprint Ltd to independently assess and validate their carbon footprint based on metrics developed by the DEFRA and DECC.
The Greenhouse report (undertaken in accordance with part 1 of the BS ISO 14064: 2006) revealed HCR’s Carbon footprint has reduced from 277 tCO2e to 242 tCO2e - surpassing the impressive 10% target set by the company’s annual reduction target.
The exhaustive assessment for the period April 2011 – March 2012 highlighted that HCR have re-worked their offices and day-to-day practices to cut site electricity usage by 19.2%, grey fleet car travel by 18.2% and refrigeration & A/C usage by a massive 87.8%.
Special Projects Manager George Dawes who has been at the forefront of the HCR Carbon Neutral effort and a green leader from the get go, commented; “The sustainability credentials of HCR continue to go from strength to strength. In these economically challenging times HCR continue to commit to the Environmental and Sustainable agenda. I am pleased that we have not only met but exceeded our target to reduce our carbon emissions by 10%, reducing our total emissions by over 12% year on year. This has only been possible through the hard work of the HCR team both in the office and the external Field Team.”
Carbon Footprint Ltd director Dr Wendy Buckley commented on HCR’s recent success: “We are delighted to report that HCR have successfully reduced their carbon emissions by 12.5% over the past year, beating their reduction targets. HCR have again demonstrated their continued commitment to sustainable business and remain a leader in their field.”
Eco-friendly ambassadors HCR have already planted over 500 trees as a part of their Sustainable Relocation Promise this year, and now look to 2012/13 to further enhance their green credentials. Plans for a DMS project are already underway, which will enable HCR to become a 100% paperless office; reducing the use of consumables throughout the business and maximising office space.
It was also announced on 2nd October that HCR was a regional winner for the Chamber Awards 2012 Sustainability Award. HCR pipped all other entrants to the post to win and represent the entire South of England for leadership in sustainability and green prowess. Judges praised HCR Group for an environmental policy and carbon management action plan that has helped it “become the first organisation of its kind in the world to achieve the title ‘carbon neutral.’ HCR will now go forward to compete for the winning title at the national Chamber Awards 2012, held at London’s Guildhall on 29 November 2012.
