Kiven Announce Upcoming EP "1840" Set for Release October 2012
Emerging alt rock band and Los Angeles natives, Kiven, have announced the arrival of their third EP, 1840, slated for release later this month. The EP’s first single, an emotive and groove-driven opener, “Hope & Smoke,” will debut on October 9th.
Los Angeles, CA, October 12, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The single sets the tone for the rest of the EP and exemplifies what the band has in store for a debut full-length release that is set for early 2013. The free download for “Hope & Smoke” is available here: https://soundcloud.com/kiven/kiven-hope-and-smoke.
Following the initial momentum and direction of sound from STEP (their previous EP), 1840 continues to progress forward both sonically and emotively, reflecting Kiven's musical and personal growth. In addition to the new material showcased in “Hope and Smoke,” 1840 includes re-written tracks from their previous releases that the band has re-approached in a new light. The tracks off of 1840 build in a more organic and naturally emotive pull on the listener with pocket drums, grooving bass lines, hard hitting guitars, soaring vocals and lush harmonies.
Though recorded at Sonikwire Studios in Irvine, CA, 1840 derives its name from the address of the band’s practice studio where they spent countless nights progressing and working on their sound. 1840 is both a continuation of the band’s trajectory and also a fresh, captivating introduction to a bright future. While continuing to dial in their stunning trademark harmonies throughout the EP, the re-approached track “The Blur,” showcases Tyler Demorest’s multi-faceted talents as he leaves behind his guitar for the keyboard, supported by Matt Cohen’s gliding bass lines and Danny Schnair’s angelic guitar progressions. The EP concludes with the deep, heavy hitting track, “Forward” – uniquely journeying from a soft piano intro, to classic rock infused versus, concluding with the band’s diverse and heavier influences in the song’s ending.
Official Track Listing For 1840:
1. Hope & Smoke
2. The Blur
3. Forward
Tyler Demorest, Danny Schnair, and Matt Cohen, known collectively as Kiven, hail from the smog-swept city of Los Angeles. While their musical influences have undoubtedly come from a wide array of artistic spectrums, it is this trifecta that ultimately blends together to create the band’s unique and personal sound. The band released their first EP, Two In The Same, in 2010 while still studying in school, and then followed with STEP in the spring of 2012, featuring their evocative single, “Release.” Shortly after their sold out CD Release Party at the Bootleg Theatre in Silverlake, Kiven has continued to pack venues in the Los Angeles area on a nightly basis, as well as landing the title as 95.5 KLOS’ “Best Unsigned Band.” Kiven will be making their East-Coast debut at this year’s CMJ Music Marathon in New York as they prepare to play official CMJ Showcases, The Deli Magazine Showcase (at The Delancey), and The Audio Perv Showcase (at The Bowery Electric) among others.
CMJ Appearances:
10/17 @ Grand Victory // Brookyn, NY – 8:30pm Set Time
10/18 @ The Delancey // New York, NY – 1:30am Set Time
10/18 @ Bowery Electric // New York, NY – TBD Set Time
