Pima Dermatology Announces Sponsorship of Tucson Meet Yourself Folk Arts Courtyard, Underscoring Commitment to Community & to Depiction of Beauty That’s Beyond Skin Deep

Tucson, AZ, October 12, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Pima Dermatology, PC, Tucson’s premier comprehensive dermatological group serving the region over 25 years, is teaming with the Tucson Meet Yourself (TMY) Folk-Life Festival to sponsor this year’s TMY Folk Arts Courtyard. Praised as the largest folk-life event in the region, the TMY Festival will be held October 12-14, 2012 downtown, with the traditional Folk Arts demonstrations located in the Pima County Courthouse Courtyard area. This is the Festival’s 39th year.

“The sponsorship of the Folk Arts Courtyard by Pima Dermatology helps us continue the tradition of TMY as a free celebration of the Arizona-Sonora region’s folk and ethnic communities,” says Maribel Alvarez, Ph. D, folklorist and Tucson Meet Yourself Program Director. “This year the Folk Arts Courtyard will feature more than 50 tradition bearers sharing their heritage, and we are grateful to Pima Dermatology for helping us honor these wonderful living traditional arts and expressions.”

According to Gerald N. Goldberg, MD, Pima Dermatology founder and internationally-recognized dermatologist, the folk arts demonstration areas of TMY provide a high-quality setting for arts that are rooted in Tucson’s diverse ethnic communities. Dr. Goldberg, himself a photographer, sees the TMY folk arts demonstrations as important cultural expression for Tucson. “These artists are cultural stewards who create beauty through their traditions,” explains Dr. Goldberg. “Pima Dermatology is proud to support them and honor another dimension of Tucson beauty.”

The TMY Festival draws more than 100,000 each year. The Festival’s main Folk Arts area this year again will be located in the historic Pima County Courthouse Courtyard area, offering an array of colorful art traditions that will come alive through demonstrations, interactions with the master craftspeople and children’s activities.
