Green Card Lottery Second Week of Registration Begins
Reno, NV, October 13, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The second week of registration for the Green Card Lottery has officially begun. There are only three more weeks left for applicants to register for a chance to win a diversity visa.
The Green Card Lottery is one of the ways that the United States government grants green cards to immigrants. Instead of applying through a family member or having an employer sponsor the applicant the Green Card Lottery only requires applicants to have a certain level of education and be from a country with historically low rates of immigration to the United States.
A degree from a four year high school or two years of work experience on a job that took two years to train for will sufficiently satisfy the education requirement. Most countries are on the State Department’s list for eligible countries to claim for the Green Card Lottery. Immigrants who are not from a country on that list can still apply either through their parents’ spouse’s nationality. The ineligible countries are: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, Mainland China, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, the Philippines, South Korea, the United Kingdom and its dependents except North Ireland, and Vietnam.
After the registration period has ended the United States government will pick the winners randomly based upon a fair system of statistical sampling and the winners will be announced on May 1, 2012. Winners of the Green Card Lottery will then apply for a permanent residence visa either through their nearest consulate (consular processing) or within the United States through the Citizenship and Immigration Services (adjustment of status). Extreme care is to be taken when applying for the actual green card since errors are considered grounds for rejection and even potential prosecution for fraud.
Some applicants apply for multiple years. Any prospective immigrants who applied for the Green Card Lottery last year (DV-2013) should check on October 22, 2012 to see if they have won the re-draw.
