Governor Snyder Appoints Adam Kaplan, CEO of Big Tent Jobs, LLC, to the Michigan Council for Rehabilitation Services (MCRS)
Adam Kaplan is chosen as one of four business industry and labor representatives in the 15 member Council.
Southfield, MI, October 17, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Governor Rick Snyder announced the appointment of Adam Kaplan, CEO of Big Tent Jobs, LLC, to the Michigan Council for Rehabilitation Services to be housed within the Department of Human Services (DHS). The role of the Council will be to assess Michigan’s rehabilitation programs and services, and make improvement recommendations to Snyder and DHS Director Maura Corrigan. Kaplan will serve on the committee representing business, industry or labor for a term that expires Dec. 31, 2015.
“I am honored and humbled to be appointed to the MCRS and to serve the State of Michigan in this critical role,” says Adam Kaplan, Founder and CEO of Big Tent Jobs, LLC. “The unemployment rate for people with disabilities in the State of Michigan and Nationwide is nearly double the non-disabled, and the workforce participation rate for people with disabilities is less than one third of their able bodied peers. This needs to change. All existing programs should be thoroughly evaluated and constantly measured using Michigan’s Performance Dashboards for Talent and Financial Health. I look forward to helping improve the quality and quantity of jobs for disabled in less time at a lower cost to Michigan and Federal taxpayers.”
When asked about his appointees Governor Snyder said, "These individuals bring vital experiences to their posts, and I am confident they will effectively work to ensure Michiganders with disabilities have access to the resources and opportunities they need to achieve independence and employment."
It is fitting that the appointment comes in October as this month is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). The United States Congress established NDEAM 1988 to raise awareness of the employment needs and contributions of individuals with all types of disabilities.
