Richmond, VA, October 17, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Virginia Veterinary Medical Association (http://www.vvma.org/) (VVMA) has announced the start of the 2012 mentorship program with the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association (http://www.mdvma.org/) (MVMA). Since 2004, members of the VVMA and the MVMA volunteer to serve as mentors to students at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (VMRCVM). VVMA and MVMA volunteers are paired with students from VMRCVM to provide trusted advising experience and wisdom to help guide, encourage and foster the professional development of each student, and establish lasting friendships among industry peers. Mentors and students will meet on Thursday, Oct. 18 at the VMRCVM campus in Blacksburg, Va., for the mentor dinner. Additionally, the VMRCVM will host the Mentor Kick-off Breakfast on Friday, Oct. 19 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. The kick-off weekend presents VVMA and MVMA members the perfect opportunity to meet VMRCVM students. More than 200 students and veterinarians participated in the 2011 kick-off breakfast.

Quotes:
“The mentorship program is a wonderful opportunity for VVMA members to share their diverse veterinary experience to help guide and inspire young veterinary talent,” said Dr. Don Henry, President of VVMA. “We hope that our members establish trusting and lasting partnerships as they share their veterinary experience and knowledge with the future leaders of the veterinary community.

“This outstanding program allows our students to build relationships with practicing veterinarians and explore possible career paths, particularly in private and public practice,” said Dr. Gerhardt Schurig, dean of the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. “Thanks to our strong partnerships with the VVMA and MVMA and their many volunteers, our students are further appreciating what it means to be a veterinarian outside of the classroom and the teaching hospital.”
