ecoEnvelopes Founder recognized by the State of Minnesota’s Community Health Services for serving the community and the earth.
Eden Prairie, MN, October 17, 2012 --(PR.com)-- ecoEnvelopes (www.ecoEnvelopes.com), the world’s leader in innovative, eco-friendly mailing solutions is proud to announce that their founder, Ann DeLaVergne, received a 2012 Certificate of Recognition from the Minnesota State Community Health Services Advisory Committee (SCHSAC) at a ceremony in Brainerd, MN on October 3rd. The SCHSAC recognizes individuals for their contribution to public health and is rewarding Ann’s leadership in creating Our Community Kitchen in Stillwater, MN and overall commitment to healthy food for the community.
While DeLaVergne remains actively involved with ecoEnvelopes and serves as Board Chair she continues to devote time to serving the community. A former organic farmer, DeLaVergne’s life-long passion is to care and protect the earth, as she says “It’s important we steward the earth’s resources because it matters.”
One of the founders, Our Community Kitchen was formed 2011 as a way to provide healthy food for all by cooking and eating together. They provide an emphasis on serving locally sourced, healthy, home-made foods from local farms, gardens, and area grocers. Our Community Kitchen serves an average of 100 people per week at Ascension Episcopal Church in Stillwater, MN. In addition to the meal program, the Kitchen also offers cooking classes that teach healthy eating and how to use local, in season produce.
“We created a space where learning in all kinds of ways can happen. We allow people to come and be part of a bigger goodness of showing the sharing and caring side of humans. We demonstrate how we can take care of our earth and use it to nourish our community in a healthy way. We allow people to come out and help, eat breakfast, listen to kitchen laughter and make a story,” says Ann.
Ann’s work has also supported initiatives such as Fresh Green Bucks program, which currently runs in three Washington County grocery stores, allow shoppers to purchase coupons that translate to fresh fruit and vegetables for local food shelves. Additionally, she helped support the establishment of six community gardens in and around Washington and Ramsey Counties, two of which are located in mobile home parks.
