Fullerton, CA Hope International University Welcomes Community for Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast
The annual Fullerton Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast on Friday, Oct. 19, will be held at Hope International University.
Fullerton, CA, October 17, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Hope International University (HIU) will host the 29th annual Fullerton Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast. The Prayer Breakfast, scheduled for Friday, October 19, is modeled after the National Prayer Breakfast, held annually in Washington, D.C.
“Our campus is a community that believes in prayer, and we are honored to host our friends and partners from the larger community for the sole purpose of praying for our local, state, and national leaders,” said Dr. John Derry, President of HIU.
The program will feature Fullerton Mayor Sharon Quirk-Silva and Keynote Speaker Jake Olson. Quirk-Silva has served as an elected official since 2004, first as a City Council member, then as Mayor Pro Tem and Mayor. She represents the City of Fullerton through a number of organizations, including the Southern California Association of Governments, Orange County Council of Governments, Orange County Sanitation District Board, and Sustainable Communities Strategy. Prior to her public service for the City of Fullerton, she taught in the Fullerton School District for 24 years.
Olson, who is only 15 years old, has lost both eyes to a type of cancer called Retinablastoma. He wrote a book for young cancer patients at the age of eight, and has also published a book entitled Open Your Eyes with McKay-Christenson. He is a popular motivational speaker and has established an organization called Out of Sight Faith. Olson’s dream is to become the first blind golfer to join the PGA tour.
The event is coordinated by a volunteer committee and sponsored by local businesses and individuals. Mayor’s Circle (top level) donors include: Care Ambulance Service, Inc.; Century 21 Discovery; Eclectic Associates; Farmers and Merchants Bank; Fullerton Police Officers Association; Hope International University; Jones & Mayer; and Professional Home Mortgage, Inc.
University leaders are pleased with the increasing collaboration between HIU and the Fullerton community. Hope International University and the City of Fullerton are partners, along with California State University, Fullerton, in the development of the future CollegeTown project. The concept includes creation of a commons area, and new residential, retail, and entertainment venues to serve the education community and its neighbors.
