Saginaw Future Receives National Honor - Excellence in Economic Development “Gold” Award Saginaw Future President Elected Secretary/Treasurer

Saginaw, MI, October 17, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Saginaw Future Inc. received a Gold Excellence in Economic Development Award for “Nexteer's Journey” in the category of Business Retention & Expansion (BRE) - Single Events for communities with populations of 200,000 - 500,000 from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC).

The honor was presented at an awards ceremony on Tuesday, October 2, during the IEDC Annual Conference, which was held September 30 – October 3 in Houston, Texas.

"We recognize Saginaw Future for creating innovative and successful strategies to promote economic development in this period of global recovery,” said Jay Moon, IEDC chair. “Our awards honor organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in communities. Saginaw Future Inc. and its team members demonstrate that they are at the forefront of the economic development profession and are using cutting-edge, effective practices that can be replicated in other communities."

During the bankruptcy of Delphi and the sale of the Steering business, Saginaw Future, the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce and Buena Vista Charter Township, banded together to create a positive message to potential buyers. Each local governmental unit passed resolutions supporting a unified package encouraging Delphi to retain operations and look for opportunities to expand in the region. The effort was successful - Delphi Steering Systems was spun off as a standalone automotive supplier, renamed Nexteer Automotive and was later purchased by Pacific Century Motors.

Currently Nexteer is Saginaw County's largest taxpayer, has 4,200 local employees and company revenue is expected to reach $2.2 billion this year. Nexteer now produces steering and driveline systems for 60 automakers besides GM and announced $150 million in equipment upgrades. Nexteer's journey is clearly a testament to its outstanding local management, talented workforce, innovative technology and determination present in our community.

“Nexteer is truly grateful for the hard work and dedication that Saginaw Future Inc. has always shown,” said Mike Gannon, senior vice president and human resources officer at Nexteer and Saginaw Future Inc. Vice Chairman. “With their help, we look forward to many more years of growth and success here in Saginaw.”
