Bella Donna Films - Ingenuity, aspiration, dedication, and highly motivated are only a few words that describe three ambitious guerrilla film makers; Iris Almaraz, Rina Fernandez and Corina Mora, who founded Bella Donna almost two years ago. These women are telling stories with unique twists and real characters…stories people can relate to from an unparalleled point of view. Concerned with the sincerity of their stories and the quality of their productions, these Bella Donna filmmakers are putting more of a women’s touch into their films, and have created a refreshing and unique style that is easy to appreciate. For the ignored segment of movie-going individuals who are interested in seeing films about characters and their situations rather than some high concept movie with no particular substance, Bella Donna films may pique your interest!
These women, with little or no funding, have come together with many of the same ideas and dreams, diligently working toward the same goals. They have accumulated many resources to produce their films in-house, exercising creativity to build their own equipment and spending the majority of their time and energy utilizing their skills and talents, rather than concerning them selves with how they will enable themselves to get their next project off the ground. With not much money at their disposal, these women have built a sturdy foundation beneath them of friends and family who are just as dedicated to this business as they are. This only adds to their unique sense of family unity. Even though all not blood related, they work together and support one another as a family. They are strong believers in the strength of family bond and the importance of that bond to reach their full potential. Although very much alike in their goals and dreams, each member of BDF wears many hats, and every facet of each film produced has many different fingerprints on it.
Having already caught the attention of numerous film festivals world wide, Bella Donna often has more than one of their seven short films in a single festival! Currently, Bella Donna Films is seeking funding for their ready-to-shoot feature film, “La Puta,” The 30 min short version “La Puta” has recently won awards at film festivals world wide. While anticipating financing for, “La Puta,” the feature, this wild bunch is in pre-production for two low-budget features entitled “The Latina Samurai” & “Pancake Planet” which they will shoot upon completion of their full length documentary “A Very Merry Chicano Christmas”. These women are directing, producing, editing and writing their own films, and pouring into each project hours upon hours of devotion, hard work, and immense amounts of ingenuity and love. There is no doubt whatsoever that Bella Donna Films is a quickly rising production company pushing forward with vigor and perseverance.
