Media Ecologist, genConnect Expert Jack Myers: Progressive Issues Will Drive "Hooked Up Generation" to Polls
In his latest video for genConnect.com, the author of "HOOKED UP: A New Generation's Surprising Take on Sex, Politics and Changing the World" says first-time voters may determine the outcomes of this year's election contests.
New York, NY, October 18, 2012 --(PR.com)-- College-age students are motivated by progressive issues like women's rights, diversity and human rights, and will turn out to vote in big numbers this November, says media ecologist and genConnect expert Jack Myers. Myers is the author of "HOOKED UP: A New Generation’s Surprising Take on Sex, Politics and Changing the World" (York House Press; ISBN: 978-0-9855508-0-6; on sale now; $24.95).
"I believe that the 'Hooked Up Generation' is going to be the single most important group in this election," Myers says in his latest video for genConnect.com, an online community of world-class experts.
He describes the Hooked Up Generation as those born between 1991 and 1995 who have grown up with the ability to multi-task, to access information 24/7, and to conduct work from any place with an Internet connection. "They are hooked on the Internet, hooked together by the Internet, and hooking up in relationships managed and defined by the Internet," Myers says.
Members of the Hooked Up Generation are also first-time voters who are harnessing the power of Twitter and Facebook as a force for political change. "They're not out on the streets marching, but they're marching online," Myers says in his latest video for genConnect.com.
The Hooked Up Generation uses the Internet to influence the world's attitudes toward sexuality, human rights and women's issues, politics, corporate social responsibility, education, religion, marketing, media, entertainment and more, Myers says.
He says musical artist Lady Gaga has profoundly influenced members of the Hooked Up Generation, both through her music and use of the Internet to further progressive goals.
"Lady Gaga is the embodiment of feminism today," Myers says in another recent video for genConnect.com. "She's very focused on empowering women and women's rights, and empowering their right to have their own self-identity, not attached to a man. And that's really the embodiment of what we see today in colleges. We see women very focused on their future, on their careers, but yet recognizing that men have a role in their lives."
