Green Card Lottery Enters Its Third Week of Registration
Reno, NV, October 19, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Green Card Lottery has now been accepting applications for the Diversity Visa 2014 program for three weeks.
The Green Card Lottery, also known as the Diversity Visa program, is an annual lottery mandated by the United States Congress and administered by the United States State Department for the purpose of increasing diversity within immigration numbers. Immigrants are allowed to apply for the program from October 2 through November 3, 2012. In May of 2013 winners of the lottery will be accepted to proceed to the green card application process. The Diversity Visas are expected to be issued in their entirety by the end of the year 2014.
The Green Card Lottery is one of the easiest ways for immigrants to gain permanent residence in the United States. Other routes by which green cards are obtained will sometimes take up to 15 years to become available whereas the Diversity Visa is available within two years of application. A green card is the only way that an immigrant can legally live, work and study within the United States on a permanent basis.
An additional advantage of the Green Card Lottery is its relatively minimal requirements for sign-up. As long as a potential immigrant is from one of the eligible countries for the Diversity Visa and has either a high school degree or has held a job for two years that required two years of training they can apply for the lottery.
The newest list of eligible countries excludes Bangladesh, Mainland China, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea, Vietnam, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Canada, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, as well as the United Kingdom and all of its independent territories (the only exception being North Ireland).
The State Department selects winners of the Green Card Lottery with a weighted, but random computer to ensure fairness.
