Toral Family Foundation Launches Essay Contest in Recognition of Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week.
Davie, FL, October 22, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Toral Family Foundation (TFF) has partnered with the Florida Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Program, the Florida Spinal Cord Injury Resource Center, and the Florida Department of Health to launch a statewide essay contest in recognition of Florida’s Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week that takes place from November 11-18.
The competition provides an opportunity for survivors of spinal cord injuries, their families, caregivers or friends to share their story with others. The ultimate goal of the contest is to help positively impact the lives of others living with a spinal cord injury, as well as educate and provide insight on spinal cord injuries to the community at large.
Contestants will have three categories, each with two topics from which to select an essay focus to write about in 500 words or less. Categories include: survivor zero to three years post injury; survivor three years or more post injury; and family or caregiver. Essay topics range from personal accounts of survivors’ thoughts, emotions and fears post injury and their approach in dealing with those issues, to caregiver’s stories on challenges they have faced in accessing resources for their loved one and how they overcame these challenges.
The winning essays will be selected by a panel of judges that include three representatives from the Florida Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Program, one of which is an individual with a spinal cord injury, and a representative from the Toral Family Foundation. There will be a total of nine winners, a first, second and third place winner selected in each category. Each of the nine winners will receive a cash prize and have their essays will be published on the Toral Family Foundation website.
