Anti-Infectives Knowledge Network Launched on EPGOnline

Tunbridge Wells, United Kingdom, October 25, 2012 --(PR.com)-- EPG Online (www.epgonline.org) is pleased to announce the launch of the Anti-infectives Knowledge Network containing news and resources from the Astellas Pharma Europe-sponsored Pasteur Symposium entitled Individual approaches to managing invasive candidiasis: from guidelines to practice, the 32nd Meeting of the International Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ISICEM) and the 22nd European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Disease (ECCMID). This is essential viewing for healthcare professionals with an interest in infectious disease.

The Anti-infectives Knowledge Centre is an Astellas Pharma Europe-sponsored, regularly updated resource containing educational content from the major anti-infective congresses throughout the year. Congress reports, multimedia presentations, slides, and video opinions from experts and attendees are available. In addition to this, content will be regularly added from other key congresses throughout the year including EBMT, ISHAM and ICCN. This resource is available at http://www.epgonline.org/anti-infectives-knowledge-network/index.cfm.

The first event covered by the Anti-infectives Knowledge Network was the Pasteur Symposium: Individual approaches to managing invasive candidiasis: from guidelines to practice. This was a two-day symposium held in January at the Institut Pasteur, Paris. The agenda, presented by a faculty of 18 experts, covered new diagnostic techniques, debates on pre-emptive and empirical therapy, and a range of individual case studies which looked at Candida infections in haematology patients, transplant patients, neonates, patients with HIV, and patients requiring renal replacement therapy. 21 multimedia presentations, downloadable slide sets and video interviews with speakers and attendees are available.

The 32nd Meeting of the International Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ISICEM) was the second event covered. Held in Brussels in March 2012, this event was one of the best-attended congresses of its kind in the world. Over 200 speakers participated in roundtable discussions, demonstrations, pro-con debates and a comprehensive programme of lectures during the four-day event. Congress reports, multimedia presentations and short opinions videos from speakers and attendees from ISICEM are available.

The most recently covered event is the 22nd European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Disease (ECCMID), a four-day congress which attracted a global audience from a wide variety of disciplines. The extensive programme has been suggested to rival that of the Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (ICAAC). Topics included new molecular testing methods, management on invasive fungal infections, hospital infection control measures and HEPA (High-Efficiency Particulate Arresting) air filtration, research on quorum sensing, and new treatment options for C. difficile infections. The Anti-infectives Knowledge Network contains congress reports, multimedia presentations and short videos of speaker and attendee opinions.

The Anti-infectives Knowledge Network is the latest addition to EPG Online (www.epgonline.org), the professional channel for doctors containing 50 disease topic homepages. Forming part of the Infectious Diseases Homepage, the Anti-infectives Knowledge Network is accompanied by drug data in 9 languages, drug news, guidelines, multimedia, clinical trials, journals and related apps. “The Anti-infectives Knowledge Network is a fantastic addition to EPGOnline. The regularly updated content from so many congresses presents an excellent educational resource for our doctors” stated Chris Cooper, EPG Health Media.
