Apex Chamber Board of Directors Endorses Wake Tech Facilities Bond
The Apex Chamber Board of Directors endorses the 2012 Wake Tech Facilities Bond and encourages voters to approve it on November 6th.
Apex, NC, October 26, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Apex Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has endorsed the 2012 Wake Tech Facilities Bond Tuesday in a unanimous vote, and is encouraging voters to vote “yes” on this November’s ballot.
With Wake County growing by 20,000 new residents each year, Wake Tech enrollment has increased more than 55% over the past five years, and is expected to increase another 50% in the next five.
The November 2012 election includes a bond referendum asking Wake County voters to approve $200 million for Wake Tech construction and renovation projects to accommodate this growth, which will allow the school to prepare an additional 24,000 students for today’s jobs with no tax increase for citizens. The bond-funded construction will also generate about 2,000 jobs in the construction industry.
Wake Tech’s building plan totals $210.2 million dollars. If voters approve the bond, Wake County would fund the remaining $10.2 million with existing cash flow. Projects included in the bond include three new instructional buildings on the Northern Wake Campus, expansion of the Public Safety Education Campus, renovations and repairs on Main Campus, and the start of construction on the new RTP Campus in Morrisville.
“Wake Tech has taken the time to work directly with local business in developing their course offerings, thus they are leaders in retraining our work force for today's jobs,” states Dave Cozzarelli, president of the Board of the Apex Chamber of Commerce. “The Apex Chamber feels it is important to support this initiative to further the education of today’s workforce.”
The Wake Tech bond referendum can be found on the back of the ballot on November 6th.
