Sonardyne Wins MTS 2012 Compass Industrial Award

Yateley, United Kingdom, October 31, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Sonardyne International Ltd. is pleased to announce that it has won the Marine Technology Society’s (MTS) 2012 Compass Industrial Award. Presented at the annual MTS Awards Luncheon at the Oceans 2012 MTS/IEEE conference in Virginia, this prestigious award recognises the contribution Sonardyne has made over the last four decades in the arena of subsea engineering, ocean observation and marine technology.

In selecting Sonardyne for the award, the company was deemed to have made an outstanding contribution in research, design, development and manufacturing for acoustic positioning, inertial navigation, sonar imaging and wireless communications. The company’s introduction of its digital signalling technology, Wideband 2, and instruments such as Fetch were notable highlights in the company’s nomination. Fetch is a long-life seabed sensor node that enables wireless data extraction via its integrated high speed acoustic modem, made possible by the development of Wideband 2. Typically used as an advanced oceanographic monitoring system, Fetch represents a major advancement in the cost reduction and capability of seabed observation nodes.

Sonardyne was also recognised for its contributions to both Government and private organisation projects. In May of this year, the company participated in a collaborative Ocean Observing project with MARACOOS, NOAA, Liquid Robotics and Rutgers University. The project used Sonardyne sensor nodes to gather oceanic data relating to temperature, pressure, salinity and wave movement. The results were displayed on booth 1706 at the Oceans ’12 exhibition and demonstrated how inexpensive and easily deployable undersea technology systems with real-time telemetry can make oceanographic data available to recreational users, resource managers, policy makers and educational institutions.
