Matthew 25: Ministries, a top-ranked international humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization located in Cincinnati, OH, is beginning to respond to the extensive devastation left behind in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.

Sandy made landfall at 8 p.m. on Monday, October 29. Hurricane force winds swirled up to 175 miles from the center of the storm and tropical storm force winds spread out almost 500 miles from the center. These winds could extend north into Canada and west to the Great Lakes region, bringing drenching rain, extreme tides and heavy snow.

Approximately seven million people are without power up and down the eastern coast. Airlines have canceled more than 15,000 flights, mass transit services are suspended in the hardest hit areas. At least 11 deaths have been reported stretching from West Virginia to North Carolina to Connecticut.

“This is a disaster of unbelievable proportions,” says Matthew 25’s CEO and Disaster Relief Coordinator, Tim Mettey. “Significant portions of ten states have been affected by this disaster, with New Jersey and New York sustaining overwhelming damage. Millions are without power and hundreds of thousands have been displaced. The need for basic necessities is critical. We plan to be working in these areas for months.”
