November Adoption Month: Children Speak Out About Their Experiences in the Child Welfare System

Detroit, MI, November 02, 2012 --(PR.com)-- In honor of National Adoption Month, Spaulding for Children will hold a panel discussion for children and youth to speak about their experiences in the child welfare system on November 12th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 16250 Northland Drive, in Southfield.

Spaulding for Children provides foster care, adoption and prevention services to more than 400 metro Detroit area children and families each year. The agency receives numerous grants to develop new and innovative methods of fostering permanency for children.

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption has selected Spaulding for Children as recipient of a Wendy’s Wonderful Kids grant. Wendy’s Wonderful Kids (WWK), a recruitment program funded by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, work to find forever families for the children in care. WWK Recruiters will accompany the children as they speak at the panel discussion to adoptive providers and potential parents. There will be dialogue between the audience and children about their experiences and the need for more families to consider adoption.

The purpose of this event is to celebrate adoption and for the media, adoptive parents and family groups to learn about the children Spaulding for Children serves, and how they can become effective leaders in improving resources for children at risk.

Spaulding for Children is also allowing openings for the media to interview representatives for November Adoption Month. For further information about this opportunity, as well as interview openings, please contact Jessica Gouin at 248-443-7080 or jgouin@spaulding.org.
