Ang Mo Kio Residents Receive Complimentary Health Screenings from SATA Commhealth on Community Health Day
This is the third time that SATA CommHealth has held the Community Health Day event in Ang Mo Kio. Among the complimentary health screening services provided during this event, X-Ray screening tests was offered as well as screening for diabetic retinopathy. The X-Ray screening carried out on the ‘SATA Buses’ is a useful way to detect tuberculosis (TB), which has seen some rise in Singapore.
Singapore, Singapore, November 04, 2012 --(PR.com)-- It was a Sunday that the residents of northern Singapore and Ang Mo Kio town, have been looking forward to as they received free health screening tests at SATA CommHealth Ang Mo Kio Medical Centre at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 at the ninth SATA CommHealth Community Health Day (CHD) event. This is the third time that SATA CommHealth has held the CHD event in this mature town. According to Statistics from the Department of Statistics, in 2011 Ang Mo Kio had the third highest cohort of 22,300 elderly residents among Singaporeans.
Among the complimentary health screening services provided during this event, X-Ray screening tests were offered as well as screening for diabetic retinopathy. The X-Ray screening carried out on the ‘SATA Buses’ is a useful way to detect tuberculosis (TB), which has seen some rise in Singapore. The local TB rates have seen increases from 2008: from 35 in every 100,000 people in 2007 to 41 in every 100,000 in 2011.[1] These rates are higher than in developed countries. The higher rates can be lowered with early detection and treatment of this contagious disease. One of the main reasons why SATA CommHealth organises Community Health Days is to highlight the importance of health screening and maintaining healthy lifestyles.
During this event the other health screening services included BMI measurements, pre-physiotherapy assessment, blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose and eye tests, together with highly subsidized mammography scanning and various types of vaccinations.
Gracing this community healthcare event was Mr Inderjit Singh, Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio GRC. “This is a meaningful event which our residents greatly appreciate, as we reach out and try to improve the health and wellness of as many of our residents as possible. These complimentary health checks are very useful in helping our Ang Mo Kio residents, in particularly the needy elderly, to check their health status and also to be reminded that 'Prevention is better than cure',” commented Mr Singh during his visit to the event.
“This event marks the third year running for this Community Health Day at our Ang Mo Kio Medical Centre. Over the years, we have found an increasing interest by the community on their personal health from the turnout at our events. The attendance at this event is very encouraging, despite the fact that there are space constraints. As an organisation, we are constantly trying to promote lifelong health and affordable healthcare. We are also honoured to have Mr Singh to grace this event” commented Dr K Thomas Abraham, Chief Executive Officer of SATA CommHealth at the event.
