Go-Kustom Films New Feature Length Documentary "Rats & Gassers" Tries Crowd Funding for Post-Production Costs
Go-Kustom Films tries IndieGoGo Crowd Funding Campaign for new Hot Rod Documentary post-production finishing funds. Is this the wave of the future for indie-film makers?
Seattle, WA, November 04, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The idea behind Crowd Funding is that a potential project (film, music, art, etc) creates a campaign on one of the funding websites (IndieGoGo and Kickstarter are two of the best known). People who fund the project called “backers,” get perks for various levels of financing the project. Each level has different perk. Some well promoted projects have made hundreds of thousands of dollars in this way. This offers a viable alternative to creative persons, who may need money to create a work, but don’t want to go the old fashioned bank loan route. Given today's economy and the lack of available bank loan funds, Crowd Funding seems like the perfect solution.
“With Rats & Gassers,” says the films Director D.A. Sebasstian, “We are basically pre-selling the film on DVD through our online campaign. We are not asking people to donate money without a return- they actually are getting DVDs and Movie Posters for their contribution. They get them before anyone else does and signed if they want. We also offer Sponsor and Producers level of sponsorship whereby a Backer can get their name or company name in the films credits, a kind of indie-film advertising. Considering thousands of people will eventually see this film in festivals and on DVD, it’s almost a bargain.”
The key to any campaign is getting the word out to potential Backers. Social Media plays an integral role. Says Sebasstian, “I have over 2,200 Facebook friends and more than twice that on Twitter. Many are extremely supportive of my work. At times during the end of a campaign, you can feel almost like a living, breathing commercial for your project, but if your not willing to do it, who else will? It’s your project, your work, your baby.”
