World Class Installations, Inc., Also Known as "the Electronic Locksmith" Addresses the Onity Hotel Lock Hacking
As most people are now aware, vulnerability has been identified in the Onity HT series locks. This vulnerability allows someone to make a device that can mimic the open feature of a portable programmer and give them access to the hotel room.
Orlando, FL, November 07, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The original device that was showcased at the Black Hat Convention was a bit sporadic. But the Hacker put his information on the internet for others to perfect.
Onity quickly put out a fix which involves either a free plug to limit access to the programmer port, or a low cost replacement circuit board that will not allow the device to work.
WCI has since taken all of the vulnerable circuit boards out of their stock and replaced them with the upgraded boards. “I would rather spend the time and resources now to make sure that 100% of our locks go out with the best available fix,” Ken says in a statement. “We will continue to monitor this issue to make sure we are putting out the best possible products. We take this very seriously. It is very sad that the public has been put at risk and many small businesses have been affected by this being put out for everyone to duplicate.”
For information on how to secure your property, feel free to contact Ken at 407 814 4974 Monday – Friday 8am-5pm Eastern.
To get the free programmer port plugs, Call Onity at 1-800-924-1442.
