Applicants Throughout Georgia Vying for Colored Rocks Honor
Colored Rocks Foundation still receiving applications to compete for the Colored Rocks Prize. Application Deadline December 5, 2012.
Atlanta, GA, November 08, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Colored Rocks Foundation has begun receiving applications throughout all corners of Georgia from high school male students of color competing for the Colored Rocks Prize. The foundation aspires to include every eligible student to be considered for the prize. The last day for applying is December 05, 2012. The Foundation will award $5,000 in prize money, along with the honor of being named a Colored Rock.
The competition opened on October 20, 2012. The Colored Rocks Prize is open to male students of color who are attending high school in Georgia and scheduled to graduate with the class of 2013. Fifteen prizes will be awarded ranging from $3500 (First Place) to $50 (Honorable Mention).
Contestants will be judged on their written composition answering a thought provoking question. The question for 2013 is in two parts:
“1. Who are you? And
2. How will you personally make an impact as a ‘Colored Rock’ among your peers?”
Included in each composition must be a plan for the applicant to use his talent to complete a project that benefits one of his struggling peers. All announced winners must complete their project and graduate from high school before receiving their award. The winners will be announced in February 2013.
The Colored Rocks Prize is a cash award and there are no conditions on the use of prize money. The competition rules and prize application should be obtained and submitted online at www.coloredrocks.org. The deadline is only a month away on December 5, 2012.

Almost one out of three young men of color do not graduate from Georgia high schools. In fact, Georgia suffers as one of 5 states with the worst high school graduation rates in the country.
The Colored Rocks Foundation administers The Colored Rocks Prize – a Prize awarded to distinguished male students of color at Georgia High Schools. The Foundation’s intent is to help increase the numbers of male African Americans, Native Americans, Asian Pacific Americans, Latino Americans and Multi-Racial Americans completing high school and using their talent to make a positive impact on their peers. All Prize winners have committed to helping at least one of their struggling peers graduate from high school. The foundation expects to expand the awards beyond Georgia as the foundation grows.
