Casey BMW of Newport News Takes Part in Breast Cancer Awareness Walk
Last weekend, Casey BMW employees joined thousands of walkers at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Newport News.
Newport News, VA, November 09, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Last weekend at the Mariners’ Museum in Newport News, thousands of breast cancer supporters took part in the Peninsula’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. Among the participants were 40 employees of the Casey Auto Group, which includes Newport News’s Casey BMW.
Despite the threat of rain and strong winds from Hurricane Sandy, walkers from all across the Peninsula showed up at the Mariners’ Museum to take part in the walk, which takes place at more than 270 locations nationwide. The walk is organized by the American Cancer Society, which is dedicated to finding a cure for breast and other forms of cancer.
Participants in the 5K walk helped raise close to $103,000 toward the fight against breast cancer. Walkers were able to have friends and family members sponsor them, and donations are being accepted through the end of December. Those who couldn’t walk could sign up as volunteers, to help with registration, water stations, and information.
Since its inception in 1993, the Making Strides series of walks have raised over $460 million to benefit breast cancer research. The American Cancer Society uses the funds to help people reduce their risk of breast cancer through routine screenings; to invest in research; to ensure access to mammograms for women; and to provide free information and services for those suffering from breast cancer.
Casey BMW was thankful for all its employees who took part in the walk despite the inclement weather. Luck seemed to be on their side, and the weather remained dry for the entirety of the walk.
