Memorial Fund Created to Save Homes from Foreclosure; Sponsors Sought

The Kim W. Cobb Memorial Fund was created at Carter Bank and Trust in Danville, Va., to prevent family homes across the nation from foreclosing after the death of a loved one. Donations also may be made at rally.org/saveahome. Sponsors are sought for fundraisers.

Danville, VA, November 14, 2012 --(PR.com)-- When a family member dies, the task of handling the estate becomes a burden to those grieving. Inheritance of a home with a mortgage loan also becomes problematic for many who wish to keep the home but can’t afford to pay the mortgage.

To help those in need, the Kim W. Cobb Memorial Fund was created at Carter Bank and Trust in Danville, Va. Its goal is to prevent family homes across the nation from foreclosing after the death of a loved one.

The fund was established in memory of Kim W. Cobb, 54, of Zuni, Va., who died July 25 from pneumonia and a lung aneurysm. The Save a Home campaign was launched to raise money for the fund, and sponsors are sought for fundraisers. All proceeds will help save the Cobb family home and others from foreclosure.

“Kim Cobb is greatly missed,” said campaign organizer Chad Adams of Danville. “I look to 1 Timothy 5:8 and Philippians 2:3-4 for guidance and believe that it’s not only important to help family members but to help others in need as well. I believe that helping families with mortgage payments is the perfect way to honor and remember Ms. Cobb.”

Cobb’s daughter, Brooke Adams of Danville, inherited the home but can’t afford to pay Cobb’s $152,637.34 mortgage to prevent it from foreclosing.

Brooke Adams said she wants to keep the home because it was built by her father, grandfather and uncle and has sentimental value. She also was raised in it and wants to keep it in the family, she said.

The initial phase of the Save a Home campaign is to pay for the mortgage until the home can be rented out or paid for. Afterward, applications will be accepted from people in similar situations who need assistance.
