Youth Focused Entrepreneurial Venture Launched in Devon During Global Entrepreneurship Week 2012

Exeter, United Kingdom, November 15, 2012 --(PR.com)-- November 12th marked the beginning of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2012 which will see well-known names from Bill Clinton and Bear Grylls to Carol Vorderman and Bruce Dickinson taking part in a series of inspirational entrepreneurship events that last year involved over 900 organisations and 200,000 individuals across the UK.

The weeklong event is the perfect context for the launch of Devon’s newest entrepreneurial programme, the Corkscrew Entrepreneur Generator, which connects recent university graduates with social enterprises in the County of Devon and further afield.

Over the course of an intensive four-week programme, young participants help a range of social enterprises explore new funding options, expand the breadth and scope of their activities, compile feasible business plans and provide fresh perspective and new ideas on problems facing community orientated businesses. Not only do participants have the opportunity of working with a diverse range of social enterprises, they also attend workshops and receive support on developing their own entrepreneurial concept.

Corkscrew is currently funded by the Leonardo Da Vinci Programme, the lifelong learning initiative of the European Commission. Participants are selected by Corkscrew’s partner agencies from around Europe, including Irish Education Partners and Blueberry of Sweden, meaning that participants work in a multinational, multicultural environment and are exposed to a varied range of international perspectives.

Entrepreneurial initiative and an ability to “think outside the box” is increasingly valued in an ever more competitive graduate jobs market and the Corkscrew Entrepreneur Generator aims to instil young people with the confidence and technical skills necessary to stand out from the crowd. The local community benefits too, through the support provided to organisations working to make Devon an even more pleasant area in which to live.

This week, Corkscrew’s first intake of participants will be taking full advantage of the programme of events planned for Global Entrepreneurship Week 2012, going to London hoping to rub shoulders with some of the keynote speakers of Entrepreneurs 2012 at the ExCel Centre and also attending a TED talk entitled “The Power of Youth.”
