WorkOne Indianapolis Helps More Than 150 Find Jobs Through Hire Fair for Healthcare Workers
Indianapolis, IN, November 16, 2012 --(PR.com)-- More than a quarter of jobseekers attending WorkOne Indianapolis’s Healthcare Hire Fair found a job. The event, which was hosted at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on August 27, 2012, connected qualified healthcare workers to local hospital and medical facility hiring managers. About 500 job seekers attended the event, and to-date 151 have reported that they secured a job as a result of the Hire Fair.
The Hire Fair, which differed from a traditional job fair, provided specific paths for prescreened candidates with healthcare education and offered the opportunity for same-day, onsite interviews and in some cases offers extended.
Many attendees were pre-screened at their local Indianapolis WorkOne center prior to the event. Pre-screened attendees were at an advantage because they had an opportunity to review their resume and interview skills with a WorkOne career advisor. Employers were also aware of the extra steps required by pre-screened candidates. Attendance for the event included 280 pre-screened healthcare professionals and 206 walk-in attendees.
“While job fairs are a great place for jobseekers to connect with employers, their effectiveness for hiring is often limited. On average, job fairs only account for three percent of external hires,” said Brooke Huntington, President and CEO of EmployIndy. “The Healthcare Hire Fair was designed to truly help employers find the job-ready, skilled workers they need in one place, in one day. With a placement rate greater than 25 percent, we are thrilled to say the event was a success for jobseekers and employers alike.”
Hire fair attendees had the opportunity to connect with more than 20 employers from local hospitals, medical offices and long term care/assisted living facilities including IU Health, St. Vincent, Community Health Network, Wishard, St. Francis, Larue Carter and Richard L. Roudebush VAMC. Ivy Tech Community College, IU Health Science Education, Walker Career Center, J. Everett Light Community and Continuing Education, and other training providers were on-site to offer information on training programs to attendees who had an interest in advancing their career in healthcare.
“Golden Living found great value in this Hire Fair. We were able to meet and interview two weeks of applicants in one day. All of us that attended felt it was a day very well spent and look forward to the next Healthcare Hire Fair,” said Yvonne Tanner, RN Director of Clinical Services, Indiana/Ohio.
The Healthcare Hire Fair was a part of the Healthcare Careers Initiative, a three year healthcare industry focused program funded by a $4.8 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor. The initiative provides training dollars to participants interested in careers in healthcare, one of the fastest growing career sectors in Indianapolis. Since the grant began in spring of 2010, more than 500 Indianapolis residents have been placed in training and earned an industry recognized credential.
