William Peace University to Freeze Tuition for 2013-2014 Academic Year
Four-Year Baccalaureate University Announces No Increase in Fall 2013 Semester as Part of Its Continuing Effort to Promote Access to Higher Education
Raleigh, NC, November 19, 2012 --(PR.com)-- William Peace University (http://www.peace.edu), a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, has announced that it will freeze tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year at the same level for the present academic year in an effort to contain fees of those attending the institute of higher learning. Tuition will stand at $23,700 effective fall 2013, the same amount it cost for those attending in the 2012-2013 academic year. This follows a 7.73 percent reduction in the fee William Peace University instituted in fall 2012.
The university’s enrollment figure for the 2012-2013 school year totaled 791 students, an increase of 9 percent from its 725 student enrollment in 2011-2012. Keeping tuition affordable for students at a time when most private institutions increased their tuitions by an average 4 to 5 percent was cited as one reason why William Peace University’s enrollment increased substantially this year.
The board of trustees of William Peace University recognizes the current economy that students and families are confronting and is actively taking steps to control cost as much as possible. The board credits the ability to freeze tuition to several cost savings from programs implemented by the university over the last year. These include the Rainwater Harvesting System Clean Water Management Trust Fund Grant Project, a campuswide environmental conservation program that will support the installation of a cistern which is projected to supply the campus with 90 percent of the irrigation water needed, thus reducing considerable money spent on water use. Another project reduced the cost of the university’s annual viewbook to promote the institution to potential students from almost $3 apiece to just 59 cents each, without sacrificing quality for the item. Other cost-saving measures continue to be investigated by the board for their feasibility and efficiency in being implemented by the university.
Quotes:
“Affordability, accessibility and accountability have been the three guiding principles William Peace University has emphasized in recent years and will continue to support in the future,” said Debra M. Townsley, Ph.D., president of William Peace University. “By holding tuition at its current level, the university is offering students the chance to attend classes and study at a rate lower than most similar private institutions. This extends to our nighttime program, where the $250 per credit hour tuition is the most affordable one among area private colleges.”
