More On GreaterGood Network and GreaterGood.org

Since November 5, GreaterGood.org grants totaling more than $120,000 has been sent to both local groups and national nonprofits working to help victims of Superstorm Sandy.

Many of the local groups receiving grants were impacted themselves by flooding, loss of power, or other damage but continued their mission despite the damage to their facilities or obstacles faced by their staff. These include the following nonprofits located in New Jersey: Community Food Bank of New Jersey, Humane Society of Atlantic County, Woodbridge Animal Shelter, St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center, and Animal Alliance. Additional assistance has gone to Animal Lifeline and Red Rover as well.

National organizations such as Rescue Bank, ASPCA, International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), and the Humane Society of United States (HSUS) have provided much needed supplies and temporary shelters for animals whose owners are cleaning up their homes or searching for a place to live.

Rescue Bank has shipped twelve truckloads of pet food or the equivalent of 1.5 million bowls of food to Paterson, Teterboro, and Atlantic City, New Jersey; Hauppauge, Hicksville, and New York, New York; Charleston, West Virginia; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. From there, the bags of donated pet food from Royal Canin, Pedigree, Cesar, Whiskas, and others are being distributed to groups throughout the Atlantic coast. GreaterGood.org’s grant helps offset the cost of distribution throughout the region.

Both IFAW and HSUS are conducting door-to-door searches for animals trapped in damaged homes or left behind following mandatory evacuations in New York and New Jersey prior to the storm. They are also offering assistance to pet owners still struggling with clean-up or loss of power, including boarding of pets until it is safe for them to return home.

ASPCA recently opened a shelter in Brooklyn to provide housing for pets from Rockaway and other badly flooded New York neighborhoods.

Team Rubicon, another recipient of GreaterGood.org “Sandy” grant matches military veterans with volunteer clean-up and food bank projects. More than 1,000 Team Rubicon volunteers participated in “A Day of Action For New York” on Nov. 18.

All GreaterGood.org donations are made possible by the support the GreaterGood Network of “Click Here To Give” websites. Since 1999, GreaterGood Network has offered people quick, easy, and low barrier ways to give via the Internet through simple, every day actions. Nearly $30 million in grants has been given to charities worldwide to date.
