ASUS W5A Notebook Wins 2006 CES Innovations Design and Engineering Honoree Award
With its Ultra-light White Casing, Swivel-cam, and Unexpected Features, the ASUS W5A Dares to be Different
Fremont, CA, December 04, 2005 --(PR.com)-- ASUSTeK Computer Inc. (ASUS), the 4th largest maker of notebooks worldwide, has been selected for the prestigious 2006 CES Innovations Design and Engineering Award Honoree. The W5A was one of 2 notebooks worldwide honored in 2006. Held by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and endorsed by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), the Innovations Awards highlight product advancements in engineering and design.
Although ASUS has won over a thousand awards in 2005, the company is especially honored by this award because of the high standards of the independent panel of journalists, designers, and engineers that choose winners each year. ASUS believes that what sets the ASUS W5A apart is its unique package of appealing style and rich features. A new enhanced model called the W5Ae now features a faster 1.86Ghz processor and a more spacious 100GB hard drive.
Designed to See and Be Seen
At first glance, the most striking feature of the ASUS W5Ae is that it is equipped with a built-in 180 degree 1.3 mega pixel swiveling webcam. The built-in camera, microphone, and software allow users to “video chat” with ease. Included video security software allows the webcam to work as a surveillance camera that activates when it senses motion. Users can also record video of events for work or play. The W5Ae’s white carbon fiber casing is as visually striking as it is rugged; it’s designed to make users want to “be seen” as well as see with it.
Small Size, Big Performance
The W5Ae is lightweight at under 4 pounds yet packs desktop performance and advanced technology. Powered by Intel's 1.86GHz P-M 750 processor and boasting up to 1024MB of DDR2 400 memory, the W5Ae flies through applications. Images are vividly displayed on a crystal clear, 12.1 inch Color Shine widescreen. Connectivity is easy, with integrated 802.11b/g and optional Bluetooth.
