Interstate Container Supports Mountaire Farms’ 18th Annual "Thanksgiving for Thousands" Food Drive
Interstate Container proudly assisted their long-time partner, Mountaire Farms, in their efforts to provide Thanksgiving meals to over 50,000 Delmarva residents.
Cambridge, MD, November 26, 2012 --(PR.com)-- With Thanksgiving upon us, it is a perfect time to give thanks and share in the holiday spirit. In their deep-seated conviction that community is family, Interstate Container proudly assisted their long-time partner, Mountaire Farms, in their efforts to provide Thanksgiving meals to over 50,000 Delmarva residents. Interstate Container is a member of Interstate Resources, a member of the multinational INDEVCO Group.
Mountaire’s Thanksgiving for thousands, a program that began 18 years ago, aims to foster a spirit of community and lasting partnership among residents, companies, and many other contributors all along the Delmarva Peninsula.
To that end, on November 19, hundreds of volunteers, including employees from Mountaire and Interstate Container, worked together in Mountaire’s Selbyville, DE warehouse to pack over 7000 dinner boxes in time for the holidays.
Every box distributed provided all the necessary ingredients to cook a nutritious Thanksgiving dinner for up to six people. These ingredients included a Mountaire chicken, corn, string beans, pork and beans, yams, stuffing mix, gravy, cranberry sauce and brownie mix. The Wilmington News Journal, The Daily Times, and WBOC-TV provided live coverage of this unique outpouring of community support.
Two days before Thanksgiving, the dinner boxes were distributed from the Dagsboro Church of God parking lot in Dagsboro, DE, to food pantries, governmental agencies, churches, and shut-ins.
Interstate Container plants in Cambridge, MD and Reading, PA have worked closely with suppliers Mark/Trece, Inc. and Stafford Cutting Dies, Inc. to produce and donate the 10,000 corrugated boxes needed for the food drive.
Mountaire Farms & Interstate Container: A History of Innovative Partnership
This is not the first time Mountaire and Interstate Container have joined forces to benefit a wider community. In 2009, Interstate Container Cambridge collaborating with Mountaire Farms developed Greencoat®, an innovative alternative to traditional wax boxes. Greencoat® boxes have significantly reduced Mountaire Farm’s carbon footprint and streamlined its supply chain. The FBA-certified, 100% recyclable, repulpable and compostable box can be used to pack poultry, meat, seafood, fresh produce, floral, and stone products.
This project earned the Pioneering Award from Global Green’s Coalition for Resource Recovery (CoRR) at their Sustainability Awards Ceremony in 2010. In the same year, Interstate Container Cambridge also received the WMDT/Mountaire Farms Environmental Star of the Month Award for outstanding achievement in promoting environmentalism on the Delmarva Peninsula.
