Idyllwild, CA, November 26, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The Idyllwild Arts Summer Program announced today several changes to this year’s upcoming schedule that will allow school age children ages 5-18 and their families more flexibility in planning their summer vacations.
Program Director Steve Fraider explained, “The program’s schedule will shift the schedule to begin one week earlier to coincide with many school district calendars will allow more students in the Children’s and Youth Program to participate in more of the more than fifty classes in the arts that are specially designed for children and youths ranging in age from 5-18 will be offered beginning June 16 and culminating on August 11.”
The program, which began in 1950, offers courses in three age groups: Children’s Center (ages 5-12), Junior Artists Center (ages 11-13) and the Youth Arts Center (ages 13-18). Campers in each age group are offered the opportunity to explore the arts and tap into their creative energies across six categories: Dance, Film, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts, and Writing.
“Our program prides itself on several points, the first of which is the quality of the teaching staff. Our instructors are experts in their fields, and many are well-known world-wide,” commented Fraider.
Other courses for kids ages 5-11 include Adventures in Art, Dance Explosion, Collaborative Filmmaking, Mini-musical, Piano workshop, and puppetry. Junior Artists (ages 11-13) can tap into their creative expression via Dance Xplosion, Mini-musical, Painting and drawing, Theatre Adventures, Computer Animation, Musical Theatre (ideal for those eat, sleep, and breathe “Glee”), and Shakespeare’s World (acting), photography and Writing.

In addition to their coursework, students have plenty of art-centered fun and downtime. There are plenty of opportunities for budding artists to be kids with evening movies, field trips, hiking, swimming, field trips, and pool parties. Attending camp at Idyllwild Arts also allows campers to explore the Idyllwild Arts Academy experience. Campers live in well-appointed dormitories, eat in the dining hall, some go on to attend the Academy, returning as college students to become camp counselors. Fraider hiimself first attended as a summer camper, who has led the program for 28 years. “One thing that we keep hearing over and over again from our campers is how nice our counselors are,” chimed in Fraider with a smile.
A limited number of scholarships are available and interested students are encouraged to apply. Registration is set to begin on February 1st, 2013.
The Idyllwild Arts Foundation, which supports the Academy, was founded in 1946 by Dr. Max Krone and his wife, Beatrice, to fulfill their dream of “creating a remote place where people of all backgrounds could come together to experience the arts.”
Idyllwild Arts Academy is a fully-accredited, college-preparatory academics and pre-professional arts training boarding school that hosts approximately 300 students from the United States and around the world. Idyllwild Arts Academy is located at 52500 Temecula Drive, Idyllwild, CA 92549.
