The Douglas Company Builds Award-Winning Project
Emerald Springs development selected as overall winner of Affordable Housing Finance Magazine’s 2012 Readers’ Choice Awards
Detroit, MI, December 02, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Emerald Springs, a multi-family affordable housing community recently built by The Douglas Company, has been named overall winner of Affordable Housing Finance (AHF) Magazine’s 8th Annual Readers’ Choice Awards. In addition to being selected as the top general development, Emerald Springs was also voted Best Family Project for 2012.
Detroit’s newest development consists of all-brick homes and townhouses that span over four city blocks and provide occupants with a secure community atmosphere incomparable to any other in the area. Along with 158 new apartment units, the development features a clubhouse with fitness center, recreational area and computer lab, and multiple playground areas speckle the grounds to keep the neighborhood children amused. Dubbed “an oasis in the city” by public officials in the Detroit Free Press, the $23 million construction project was the only affordable development in Michigan selected as a finalist of all nine AHF Readers’ Choice categories this year.
“We’re honored to be a part of such a project and look forward to continued success with the next phase of Emerald Springs,” said Pete Douglas, President of The Douglas Company.
Affordable Housing Finance received over 140 nominations for the top developments of 2011 and 2012. Subscribers to AHF’s magazine and e-newsletter voted for their favorites from 34 pre-selected finalists to determine the winners of each category. The winners were recognized at the conclusion of AHF Live: The 2012 Affordable Housing Developers’ Summit at the Fairmont Millennium Park in Chicago, Illinois, and will be featured in the November/December issue of the magazine.
Emerald Springs, developed by Unified Property Group and the Detroit Housing Commission, was a welcome addition the Motor City. The 192,000 square foot project featuring the architectural design of Economides Architects was completed in June, 2012.
