QA Graphics Helps Maid-Rite Corporation Roll Out Digital Menu Boards
Des Moines, IA, December 05, 2012 --(PR.com)-- QA Graphics, Iowa-based interactive design firm, is pleased to announce that they have developed a digital menu board solution that Maid-Rite Corporation will implement at their new franchise locations.
Established in 1926, Maid-Rite takes pride in being one of, if not the oldest franchise restaurant chain in the United States, as a quick serve, casual dining restaurant franchise known among its customers for its delicious, one of a kind, fresh ground beef loose meat sandwiches. Maid-Rite looked to QA Graphics to create a menu board prototype to replace their current static signage. They have installed a pilot of the digital menu board at a Maid-Rite store in West Des Moines, Iowa. Displayed on an NEC 55” commercial LCD above the register, it features menu items and pricing.
“We loved the idea of having a sleek menu board that is easier for customers to read and looks very modern,” said Bradley Burt, Maid-Rite President & CEO. “It also has great functional use for us as a franchise. As we change menu items, calorie counts change, etc., we are able to easily send the information out to all franchisees without printing new menu boards. Not only is this much more convenient, but it is also environmentally friendly.”
Since the new signage has been implemented, Maid-Rite has received very positive feedback, with customers stating how easy it is to read the menu. Soon, calorie information will also be shown. Maid-Rite takes great pride in offering healthier menu choices and is currently working with Iowa State University to identify nutritional information for the menu.
“Consumers are becoming more and more aware of nutritional information and we want to be sure that our customers are knowledgeable about our food and can make the best decisions for their lifestyle,” said Burt. “The more information that we are able to easily provide to customers, the better the feedback we receive and the more frequently they patronize our restaurants.”
Maid-Rite restaurants are currently located in eleven states, and with requests to bring the Maid-Rite brand into smaller communities, they have recently developed a lower cost Maid-Rite prototype. For under $195k, which includes working capital, individuals can open a franchise in their community. This new prototype is almost half the price of a traditional Maid-Rite Diner, so Maid-Rite expects to see franchise growth across the country. QA Graphics’ digital menu board solution will be used at all new franchises, paired with a 55” commercial LCD by NEC Display Solutions, QA Graphics’ hardware provider. As Maid-Rite grows, it’s important that they maintain a consistent brand. To help manage this, QA Graphics developed the menu board so that modifications can be made at both corporate and the individual franchisee level. Franchisees will host their solution locally with the ability to update menu items and pricing using a content management system (CMS).
“The content is very, very, easy to access and update,” said Burt. “It is very simple to access from anywhere with an internet connection. If they have multiple restaurants, they will be able to do them all at once, without having to go from store to store.”
Additionally, Maid-Rite Corporation will maintain control over the look and feel of the application with the ability to automatically implement global updates. “This is positive from both a programming standpoint, as the program is not easily altered, avoiding headaches when making changes. But it is also convenient from a franchisor side, as we are able to regulate changes and the amount of content on the board,” states Burt.
