Kirby Drake Speaks at the American Chemical Society’s Southwest Regional Meeting
Dallas, TX, December 08, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Kirby Drake, partner at Klemchuk Kubasta LLP (KK LLP), a leading full-service intellectual property (IP) law firm, was a presenter at the American Chemical Society’s (ACS) Southwest Regional meeting in Baton Rouge on November 5. Speaking as a part of The Small Chemical Businesses Division symposium, Drake addressed the ins and outs of litigation, licensing and other business issues that may arise once a patent issues. She emphasized how often patent holders fail to take advantage of their patent rights while those accused of patent infringement are often unprepared to address allegations when they arise.
Drake’s presentation, titled “So A Patent Issues- Now What?”, utilized case studies and real-life examples of scenarios that arise once a patent issues both from a patent holder’s perspective as well as from the perspective of an accused infringer. “Technology companies of all sizes and those involved with technology should recognize the value of IP, particularly patents, in both building market share and fending off the competition. Those that develop a comprehensive plan to assert IP and/or defend against patent allegations have the best chance of achieving a successful outcome at an acceptable cost.”
Drake, an attorney who focuses primarily on intellectual property litigation and patent prosecution, including trade secret, patent, trademark, confidential information and breach of contract matters, shared her knowledge on how patent holders and those accused of patent infringement may approach issues of commercialization, licensing, and litigation.
ACS Regional meetings serve to reflect the diverse professional interests in their geographic regions. ACS Members from local sections within the region holding the conference attend these sessions to stay active and involved in the chemical community. These meetings also provide a forum for networking and collaborative efforts with local chemists. Drake is an active member of the American Chemical Society, both on the national as well as local level, and she is the General Chair for the 2014 Southwest Regional Meeting.
