Great Christmas gift for the gardener in your life. The Valley Permaculture Alliance (VPA), a valley nonprofit organization promoting sustainable urban living, is offering over 120 varieties of trees such as Honey Crisp Apple, Vietnamese Guava, Ruby Red Grapefruit and Arizona Sweet Orange.
Phoenix, AZ, December 09, 2012 --(PR.com)-- This time of year so many people are searching for that perfect gift in hopes of spreading holiday cheer. Rather than give something that can so easily be forgotten, why not try giving a gift that is local, yummy and continues to give back year after year?
For that low-desert gardener in your life, the Valley Permaculture Alliance (VPA), a valley nonprofit organization promoting sustainable urban living, is offering over 120 varieties of trees such as Honey Crisp Apple, Vietnamese Guava, Ruby Red Grapefruit and Arizona Sweet Orange. Many of the varieties offered are not sold in local nurseries and have never been offered in the valley before!
In the true spirit of Christmas, and as an initiative in the support of the VPA’s mission to inspire sustainable urban living in the desert southwest, the VPA is also offering the option to donate fruit trees to a community or school garden of your choice. Now is the time to give back to the community or school that has done and continues to do much for you and your family. This is that gift that will always be remembered and appreciated.
Dwarf tree options are available for those interested in container gardening, and numerous full-sized trees are sold for those landscaping a front or backyard. In addition to providing an annual source of healthy food, fruit trees also offer shade, purify surrounding air, and improve the aesthetic quality of a property.
Individuals can place fruit tree orders until December 31, 2012. Trees will be available for pick up at two day long Fruit Tree Events in late winter and early spring. VPA provides onsite demonstrations at the Fruit Tree Events to teach buyers how to plant and care for their new bare root fruit trees.
Last year, 234 trees were donated to 18 different schools and community gardens. The public is encouraged to donate to this program at the VPA website.
