EDLink Launches Peer Learning Circles, Webinars, and Job Board Exclusively for Non-Profit Executive Directors
Services for non profit Executive Directors launched.
Toronto, Canada, December 12, 2012 --(PR.com)-- The International Association of Executive Directors today announced the addition of peer learning circles, webinars, and a job board to EDLink, a suite of programs and services designed exclusively for non-profit Executive Directors. All of the new offerings are free for EDLink members and available through www.TheEDLink.org. EDLink also provides programming to non-member Executive Directors for a fee.
Unlike other associations that cater to a wide range of non-profit industry volunteers and professionals, EDLink is the first organization of its kind to offer resources and programming exclusively for non-profit Executive Directors. EDLink gives Executive Directors the opportunity to network and connect with peers, and access resources, information and educational programming that speak to their unique and challenging role. Launched earlier this year, EDLink has quickly attracted an enthusiastic and growing audience for their programs.
“The role of Executive Director requires a combination of skills and competencies rarely asked for in any other executive position,” said William Harper, CEO of EDLink. “They are often their organization’s chief strategist, marketer, office manager, human resources professional, fundraiser, decision-maker and board liaison all rolled into one. Yet, despite all that Executive Directors are asked to do, the only professional development and support available to them has come from general-purpose organizations catering to the non-profit sector at large, or from ad hoc groups that are not widely promoted and are usually short lived. The mission of EDLink is to support Executive Directors in their varied and demanding role while connecting them to each other.”
The results of a 2011 survey by Canada’s HR Council on the Nonprofit Sector of non-profit executive leaders portray the formidable situation Executive Directors find themselves in. Despite working long hours (53% work more than 45 hours per week) and being given responsibility for everything from strategic planning to office administration to financial management and fund-raising, 81% of Executive Directors make less than $100,000 a year. And close to one-third (27%) of Executive Directors are given this intimidating mandate despite having no senior management experience. Having to do so much with so little support manifests itself in stressed employees (45% report day-to-day stress is excessive) and high turnover (31% of Executive Directors surveyed said they expected to leave their current position within the next three years). The goal of EDLink is to reverse these trends by giving Executive Directors the support, education and resources they need to effectively do their job.
