Torrance, CA, December 19, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Many families are attempting to put their lives back together after Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast this past October. Seventeen-year-old, Staten Island Girl Scout Hayley Rodenfeld from Troop 5227 has made it her mission to help her fellow sisters and neighbors by reaching out to companies for donations and assistance during this time of need.
Rodenfeld’s Girl Scout troop however, isn’t your typical group. The girls range in age from 6 to 22 and come from all over Staten Island. Its members are both typical and special needs girls. And when one of the member’s wheelchairs was ruined during the hurricane, Rodenfeld took it upon herself to start contacting companies to see if they could help.
Convaid, Inc. was one of those companies and has teamed up with the troop to donate a couple of wheelchairs to help those who lost their medical equipment during the hurricane.
“As a Girl Scout, we always help people at all times and are a sister to every Girl Scout,” Rodenfeld said. “I want to put a plan into place to assist all the children with special needs and their families from my Girl Scout Troop that were directly affected by Hurricane Sandy. Locating and delivering special needs equipment for the children is on the top of the list.”

“We knew right away when we were contacted by Troop 5227 and the team from Home Medical Equipment that we were going to do what we can to help,” said President of Convaid Chris Braun. “Hurricane Sandy has had devastating effects to many people on the east coast and we are very happy that we can contribute to rebuilding the community.”
