New Survey Equipment Helps the SUMO Group Provide a Fast Service for GPC Cumbria
Havant, United Kingdom, December 22, 2012 --(PR.com)-- New, top of the range surveying instruments Trimble VRS instant RTK and access software has enabled The SUMO Group to provide extensive work for a new, exciting project. As a multi-disciplinary survey business with a network of 30 fully equipped teams throughout the UK, SUMO provide a range of services to cover all surveying needs, from utility mapping, to laser scanning, elevations, and floor plans. The SUMO Group’s latest project involved work for GPC Cumbria who specialise in shore end work on wind farms.
The ‘Gwnt y Mor’ project will involve the construction of 160 turbines due to be built in Liverpool Bay off the North Wales coast. These new generators and turbines will be capable of generating enough energy for around 400,000 homes. Undertaking the survey work for this two billion Euro product is SUMO’s Senior Land Surveyor Stuart Cartwright. With the new Trimble equipment Stuart and the team will be able to ensure the land based rollers are correctly positioned, creating a pathway to avoid hazards with existing cables in the area. Other tasks include checking pit depths and beach profiles, pre-surveying, and providing as-built drawings.
Speaking of the major project, Stuart explains: "Our decision to use Trimble's VRS now service, in conjunction with an R8, has ensured that we have been able to carry out this work well within the specified tolerances and with no survey down time. We are consistently achieving 15mm positional and 20mm height accuracy. My life has been made particularly easy - I need to carry just the R8 and the controller, unhindered by cables or base stations, whilst the VRS now does the work and provides instantaneous RTK corrections."
