"Fallen Legends of the New River Gorge" Combines History & Family Fun

A visit to West Virginia with ACE Adventure Center’s ‘Fallen Legends of the New River Gorge’ tour will piece the puzzle together while you enjoy three days of family fun mixed with local folklore.

Before your arrival at the Adventure Center, you’ll receive a copy of Bragg’s popular ‘Window to the Past’ book describing important historical and cultural events and places in the New River Gorge National Park. Once you arrive at the Oak Hill basecamp, you’ll embark on a three day, two day experience through history.

After checking in on Wednesday, you’ll have time to enjoy the on-property amenities of ACE including the popular Aqua Jump™ Inflatable Water Park before a delicious dinner at the Lakeside Dining Lodge. Enjoy the stars and sounds of the outdoors in our cabin tent.

In the morning, you’ll get energized with a healthy breakfast from the ACE kitchen and prepare for a bike cruise to the historic town of Thurmond. Along the way you’ll discover remnants and remains from a robust era full of prosperity and diversity. After a lunch served riverside, you’ll head back to the Adventure Center for relaxation. Following a dinner feast, you’ll load our horse drawn wagon and ride out to the spectacular Concho Overlook. Watch the sunset over the mountains and listen as our local storyteller weaves the tales of ghostly legends of the New River Gorge. The horses will carry you back to the Adventure Center and another night under the stars.

Another hearty breakfast will fuel you for your river journey by raft and duckie down Surprise Canyon of the Upper New River. Lunch is served riverside. The New River serves as your backdrop as you explore the traditions and colorful historic characters of yesterday... the perfect getaway full of family fun.
