"Follow the River... a Historic Journey" Rafts You Back through Time
Oak Hill, WV, July 26, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Summer vacations filled with traditions will receive a boost this year with a new 3 day/2 night package from Oak Hill’s ACE Adventure Center. Located along the banks of the historic New River Gorge National Park, the three day journey includes whitewater rafting, meals, a riverside overnight and a sharing of Mary Draper Ingles famous “Follow the River” story.
Learn about frontier culture from the perspective of European settlers who were torn between the ‘civilized’ world and that of Indian life. The details of Mary Draper Ingles dramatic capture by Shawnee Indian in 1755 and her subsequent escape through the New River Gorge on her way home 500 miles is the subject of a national best seller by James Alexander Thorn. While camping on the banks of the New River the story, retold by local storyteller Karen Vuranch of West Virginia Enterprises, recreates the struggles and success of this monumental journey.
ACE guest’s will arrive on Sunday and have the opportunity to enjoy on-property amenities including the Aqua-Jump Inflatable Water Park, fuel up in the Lakeside Dining Lodge for dinner and stay in the cozy comfort of a Cabin Tent. Monday morning starts with a hearty breakfast buffet and packing for the overnight journey. A full-day raft & duckie adventure down the Prince Canyon of the Upper New includes a riverside lunch, stories of the Gorge, and time to splash and enjoy the river.
After arriving at ACE’s private overnight site along the banks of the New River, expert whitewater guides become chefs and serve a delicious grilled dinner. As the sun goes down, Mary Draper Ingles arrives to share her tales and stories from her historic journey. You’ll sleep in your own private tent after sharing the glow of the campfire and a piece of the past. The next morning, awake to the smells of a breakfast served tentside and another full day of duckie and rafting adventure on Surprise Canyon. Lunch is again served riverside, and you’ll want to be sure that you smile for the camera as you’ll have time to review a custom video of your journey through the past.
Space is limited so sign up early to share in this fun family event during August. For more information and availability, contact ACE at 1-800-787-3982 and ask about the ‘Follow the River...a Historic Journey’ adventure or visit them on the web at www.aceraft.com.
