Raleigh, NC, January 04, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Dan Fields, AIA and principal of BJAC Raleigh, pa (http://www.bjac.com), an architectural firm offering professional architectural and design services to healthcare, education, municipal and research clients, has announced that the East Carolina School (ECU) of Dental Medicine, Ledyard E. Ross Hall has been awarded the Eagle Award for Excellence in Construction in the $25 million to $50 million category by the Carolinas Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC). Award recipients were honored on Nov. 15 at the 11th Annual Excellence in Construction Awards Ceremony at Founders Hall in Uptown Charlotte, N.C.
A groundbreaking project in eastern North Carolina, medical education and for ECU, Ross Hall is home for teaching, research and dental care services and will provide improved dental health for the entire state, with a focus on underserved rural communities. Ross Hall is linked via advanced technologically to 10 community service learning centers located throughout the state. These centers will promote outreach and education for dental health care professionals while providing dental care and treatment for area residents.
As part of the project’s unique mission, BJAC’s team designed the integration of groundbreaking dental education technology. BJAC also coordinated building construction with challenging equipment requirements, including more than 150 dental chairs and an instrument sterilization suite. ECU had very specific and complex engineering systems with detailed operating and maintenance requirements, which were an additional challenge for the BJAC-led process.
BJAC, in coordination with Balfour Beatty Construction, led the design and construction of the more than 100,000-square-foot building on ECU’s campus. BJAC was responsible for the design process, and also provided assistance in site selection. ABC's Awards for Excellence Program has become the premier competition within the construction industry that recognizes outstanding construction projects across the nation.
