DVD Information
“Punch” – 2 disc Special Edition
Wan-deuk (YOO Ah-in, Sungkyunkwan Scandal, Antique) is a soft-spoken rebel who has all the makings of an at-risk youth. He comes from a poor family headed by a hunchback father and a stammering uncle. He is a quiet loner, who best expresses himself with his fists. And he has no dreams for the future beyond the day he can escape the watchful eye of his meddling homeroom teacher, Dong-ju…who just happens to live right next door. Dong-ju (Kim Yun-seok, The Thieves, The Chaser) is no ordinary educator. He speaks bluntly and seems more concerned with the world outside the classroom than school regulations. Dong-ju takes a particular interest in his young neighbor’s life and one day he blindsides Wan-deuk with some unexpected information: the mother Wan-deuk never knew is a Filipino immigrant…and she wants to see him. A coming-of-age story with equal parts humor and humanity, “Punch” features direction by Lee Han (Lover’s Concerto, Almost Love) and standout performances from Yoo Ah-in (Sungkyunkwan Scandal, Antique) and Kim Yun-seok (The Thieves, The Chaser), along with Kim Sang-ho (Moss, City Hunter TV), Park Soo-young (Architecture 101) and Jasmine Lee. Punch was one of 2011’s surprise box-office champs – with more than 5.3 million tickets sold in South Korea – and following its world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival, it went on to screen at the Berlin International Film Festival, Udine Far East Film Festival, Shanghai International Film Festival, and Fantasia Film Festival, as well as throughout North America. Based upon a best-selling young-adult novel by Kim Ryeo-ryeong, “Punch” was produced by UBU Film and Another Pictures. Includes the feature film – plus over an hour of video extras – all with newly-created on/off English subtitles. Catalog number: FPDVD1324, UPC: 742617132421, $29.99 srp., Street date: March 12, 2013 (prebook: February 5, 2013)
“The Suicide Forecast” – Special Edition
Byeong-wu (Ryoo Seung-bum, The Unjust) left the world of professional baseball behind and found success as an insurance salesman. But when one of his clients commits suicide – and there are questions about advice he provided to the insured – his own life spins out of control. As he prepares to defend himself against the pending criminal and internal investigations, he remembers selling life insurance to three suicide survivors, whose financial motives may be suspicious. Now Byeong-wu must scurry through the city in a frantic attempt to chase these people down. Can he convince them to change their plans – and that life may be worth living – before time runs out? Also known as “Suspicious Customers”, this South Korean comedy about a serious subject stars Ryoo Seung-bum (Doomsday Book, The Unjust), along with supporting performances from Sung Dong-il (Miss Conspirator, My Girlfriend Is a Gumiho TV), Park Chul-min (As One, Spellbound), Jung Sun-kyung (City of Fathers, Hilarious Housewives TV), SEO Ji-hye (49 Days TV, I Love You TV), Lim Ju-hwan (Tamra Island TV, What’s Up?
