One Vet’s Difficult Path Into PTSD and Back: RAMJET Published by Outskirts Press
A Vietnam Vet takes the reader on a gritty life story of struggle and recovery after a horrific accident as a naval aviator left him with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder.
Jemez Springs, NM, January 06, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Author, Navy aviator and Vietnam Veteran Roger Blake announced today the release of RAMJET, My Secret Life with PTSD, published by Outskirts Press. Blake uses humor, personal anecdotes, bits of philosophy, and unusual self-portraits to offset the sometimes grim realities of PTSD and to show that people with PTSD have normal needs, hopes, talents, and aspirations...and a disorder that affects their conventional behavior.
There were 830,000 veterans who returned from the Vietnam War with PTSD, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, according to the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Now the war in Afghanistan has been creating three thousand more cases of PTSD every month.
As PTSD affects more and more Americans’ lives, it becomes increasingly important for family, friends, and associates of veterans to be able to recognize its symptoms and understand how it works. Only then will we as a nation be able to deal with its broad, crippling effects. Blake’s autobiography has been written to help readers recognize PTSD and understand how it affects the lives of those who are afflicted by it.
For this purpose Blake uses his own experience, starting with a devastating accident he had in his early days as a naval aviator. From that day in Vietnam on, his pursuit of the American Dream became more and more fractured until he ultimately ended up in a Veterans Administration hospital in 2005 with a diagnosis of PTSD and a degenerative back injury.
Along the way Blake worked as a commercial realtor, government supervisor, truck driver, jeep tour driver, cabbie, waiter, bartender, used car salesman, photographer, and artist, to name just some of the many jobs he held. As each of the successes he may have had was dashed, he would always ask “Why?” but it was not until he understood the cause of his difficulties that he was able to begin to make a recovery.
A remarkable read and an informative tool, RAMJET provides the inside story of the often hidden symptoms of this increasingly widespread disorder.
