Author Reaches Out to Alternate Education Students
St. Paul, Alberta, Canada, January 09, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Eileen Schuh, author of four books, will be visiting students at the St. Paul Alternate Education Centre (SPAEC) in St. Paul, Alberta Canada, this coming Thursday, January 10th.
“I’ll be reading a chapter from my new novel Fatal Error and then leading the class in a discussion on the various social, emotional, and legal issues the novel addresses,” she explains.
Fatal Error is the second book in her young adult BackTracker series. “Around this time last year, I introduced the SPAEC students to the BackTracker characters when I presented on The Traz. We discussed the danger of gangs as well as empowerment and positive decision-making.”
Schuh says the underlying theme of Fatal Error centres around accepting responsibility for the results of one’s choices. “In The Traz, young Katrina makes some bad decisions and ends up entangled with a violent gang. At the end of the book, she’s rescued from the gang as part of an undercover police operation. Now, in Fatal Error, Katrina must face the emotional, social and legal consequences of her poor decisions. Additionally, the officers involved in taking down the gang, face a lot of scrutiny. Blame, betrayal, guilt… forgiveness—are all there in this novel. These concepts are very difficult ones for teens and adults to understand—both in Fatal Error and in real life.”
Schuh’s series has caught the interest of several professionals involved with at-risk teens. Last year she was invited by Corrections Canada to present The Traz to children at the North Slave Young Offenders Facility in Yellowknife. She hopes to repeat that visit with Fatal Error later this year. As well, The Traz is on the recommended reading list for students of Introductory Criminology at a North Virginian college.
Locally, Schuh’s books can be purchased at the St. Paul Co-Op Gas Bar, Value Drug Mart St. Paul, The Kutting Edge, and the Visual Arts Centre. They can be borrowed from the St. Paul Municpal Library as well as from some school libraries.
Paperback and eBook editions are available from online bookstores such as Amazon, Smashwords, and Barnes and Nobel.
In addition to The Traz and Fatal Error, Schuh has published an adult SciFi novella, Schrodinger's Cat, and a School Edition of The Traz.
