Shannon & Wilson Begins MSD Construction Management Project
Saint Louis, MO, January 19, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Shannon & Wilson has received notice to proceed with design review for the first of three tunnel projects that are part of Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District’s (MSD) multi-billion dollar, multi-year Capital Improvement and Replacement Program. Shannon & Wilson will provide design review and construction management for all three tunnels being designed and built over the next 17 years:
• Lemay Force Main connecting the Lemay Pump Station No. 1 to the Lemay Wastewater Treatment Plant
• Jefferson Barracks conveyance and storage tunnel
• Lower Middle River Des Peres conveyance and storage tunnel
Thomas Abkemeier, P.E., will serve as Program Manager for the duration of the contract. Abkemeier’s experience is in both the office and field aspects of geotechnical engineering and construction management, with particular emphasis in large project management, tunneling, shoring systems, and geotechnical instrumentation. Patrick Kinsella, P.E., will be working alongside Tom as Deputy Program Manager.
Shannon & Wilson has worked for MSD continuously over the past 15 years, including providing construction management services for the Lower Meramec River Wastewater Treatment Plant and Baumgartner Tunnel – a similar project. Working with Shannon & Wilson are several other local firms, including Parsons Brinckerhoff, Gonzalez Companies, Kaskaskia Engineering, Kwame Building Group, Black & Veatch, and Horner & Shifrin. Design review has begun and construction of the first tunnel is scheduled to begin in June 2013.
