Central Ohio Filmmakers’ Crowdfunding Campaign Debuts on Kickstarter
Local Award-Winning Filmmakers Aim to Raise $8,000 Leveraging Kickstarter to Help Produce Their Latest Project
Columbus, OH, January 26, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Today, Arbor Avenue Films, in partnership with Never the Luck Productions, announced a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to support their latest project in development, Star and the Snowman, http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/230353252/star-and-the-snowman. The film is the story of two people searching for "normal" in a world of death, betrayal and revenge. Filmmakers are seeking $8,000 in funding to shoot the film’s winter scenes in central Ohio.
“Arbor Avenue Films makes quality theatrical films on a modest budget,” said John Whitney, director, Arbor Avenue Films. “Because of the type of worlds in which our stories are set, we're able to use existing locations to communicate the visual tone of our films.”
The film stars Columbus-based actor Kevin McClatchy (Unstoppable, Love and Other Drugs, X-Files) who can be seen in Catco’s upcoming production of Red.
The production team includes Columbus radio personality and filmmaker Dino Tripodis of Never the Luck Productions, who serves as a producer and plays a key role in the film.
“’Star and The Snowman’ is the film that I’ve been waiting to produce because as I read the script, the story and the characters jumped off the page—I could 'see’ this film as I was reading it,” said Tripodis. “Working with talents like John and Phil, two guys who I know will make that happen, makes it all the better.”
“It’s much more economical to make a film here in central Ohio versus L.A. or New York,” said Phil Garrett, producer, Arbor Avenue Films. “We have an experienced team to call on here and can produce a quality film for much less. Our brand of filmmaking remains cost-effective without compromising the production value. Our approach follows in the footsteps of successful independent films like Sundance Grand Prize winning Winter’s Bone and Jeff Nichols’ Take Shelter, which was shot and produced here in Ohio.”
Together, Whitney, Tripodis and Garrett have 20+ years of filmmaking experience. Their work has screened internationally and garnered awards including a Chris Award from the Columbus International Film & Video Festival, Best Short Film from the Indie Gathering, and an audience favorite award from Shockfest. Arbor Avenue Films is also a two-time winner of Best of Show, Best Editing and Best Actor awards from the Underneath Cincinnati Film Festival.

About Star and the Snowman
A hitman known only as The Snowman. A call girl known only as Star. Not their real names, obviously, but real names are a liability in the shadowy underworld these characters inhabit. Star and the Snowman is the story of two people searching for "normal" in a world of death, betrayal, and revenge. Snowman is a killer born into a family of violence; he knows no other way of life. Star is a woman out of control in a whirlwind of drugs and sex, unable to focus a damaged mind long enough to find an exit. When Snowman's latest job threatens to rip open some very old wounds for them both, they find themselves torn between the opportunity to escape this hellish life and the need to finally learn the truth about a decades-old secret which began the whole nightmare. But in their world, learning the truth always comes with a heavy price, and such debts can only be paid in blood.
