New Case Study Describes California Neonatal Unit's Role in babyLance Heelstick Device Development
Results from Simulated and Clinical Use Survey at Citrus Valley Medical Center
Atlanta, GA, February 02, 2013 --(PR.com)-- MediPurpose(tm), a master distributor and manufacturer of medical devices, today announced the publication of a new case study, “Reinventing a Better babyLance(tm) Infant Heel Incision Device: Collaboration with Citrus Valley Medical Center.”
The case study describes how Citrus Valley Medical Center's Family Birth & Newborn Center in West Covina, California collaborated with MediPurpose throughout its babyLance heelstick device design process to:
* Provide highly qualified "voice of the customer" (VOC) input about the original and the new babyLance
* Shape and validate end-user preferences, expectations and requirements for the ideal heelstick solution
* Evaluate new babyLance prototypes and pre-production models at key stages of the redesign process
* Participate in simulated and clinical use validation studies of the redesigned babyLance
Two previously published white papers summarized the results of the simulated and clinical use studies conducted at multiple facilities in the United States and Europe. The new report provides findings specific to Citrus Valley.
"We owe Citrus Valley Medical Center a tremendous amount of gratitude," said MediPurpose founder and CEO Patrick Yi, who also led the babyLance design team. "Through our relationship with leader Clinical Nurse Specialist Andrea C. Morris, we were able to get invaluable feedback and participation."
As a result of Citrus Valley's cooperation, MediPurpose was able to launch its all-new babyLance in August 2012 with full confidence that it would meet the needs of neonatal caregivers.
"MediPurpose was keenly aware that our new babyLance heelstick would need to be nothing short of outstanding if it was going to be a success," added Yi. "Having neonatal nurses closely involved in the design and validation process was a key component of our strategy to fulfill that mission."
"The results also helped to further validate MediPurpose's medical product innovation process and capabilities," said Yi.
About babyLance Infant Heel Incision Devices
The new babyLance infant heelstick device is a fully redesigned iteration of MediPurpose's original safe, easy and effective heelstick device.
Used by neonatal caregivers to collect blood samples from infants, the new babyLance features an ergonomic design to provide a secure and stable grip.
Combined with a redesigned trigger mechanism, the heelstick device is easy to activate, helping to deliver a consistent incision without damaging the baby's tender nerve fibers.
babyLance heelstick devices are available in two models:
* The babyLance BLP (Preemie), which delivers an incision depth of 0.85 mm.
* The babyLance BLN (Newborn), which delivers an incision depth of 1.00 mm.
